This policy explains what data Driver's Log ("the App") collects, how it's used, and where it's stored. Your trip, financial, and profile records stay on your device — there is no account system and we never sell your data. The App uses Firebase (Google) for crash reporting and basic usage analytics, Google AdMob to show ads, and an optional AI feature that sends an aggregated summary of your activity to a cloud service, all described below.
| Data | Why it's collected | Where it's stored |
|---|---|---|
| GPS location | To track mileage during a shift and to detect individual trips automatically | On your device only |
| Receipt photos | To read amounts off a receipt via on-device text recognition | Processed on your device; the photo itself is not retained after scanning |
| Voice audio | To let you log an entry by speaking instead of typing | Processed on your device via on-device speech recognition; audio is not retained or transmitted |
| Trip, revenue, expense, and shift records you enter | To power mileage history, financial tracking, and tax estimates | On your device only |
| Aggregated activity summary (AI Insights feature) | To generate personalized financial tips via the AI Insights feature | Sent to a Firebase Cloud Function and Google's Gemini AI when you request insights; raw records are never sent — only totals and category breakdowns |
| Advertising ID | To serve ads via Google AdMob | Managed by Google AdMob; see below |
| Crash and error reports | To diagnose and fix bugs | Sent to Firebase Crashlytics (Google); see below |
| App usage data (screens viewed, feature usage, app opens) | To understand which features are used so we can improve the App | Sent to Firebase Analytics (Google); see below |
The App does not require an account and does not collect your name, email, or any other personal identifier as part of analytics or crash reporting. Your location, receipts, voice audio, and full financial records are never included in analytics events, crash reports, or AI requests.
All personal data is stored locally in the app's private storage on your device. If you have Android's automatic backup enabled (the default on most devices), this data is backed up to your own Google Drive account by Android itself — we do not operate or have access to that backup. Uninstalling the app or disabling backups will remove this data permanently unless you've exported it yourself (the app includes a CSV export feature for this purpose).
Each permission is requested only when the corresponding feature is first used, and the app remains usable (with that feature disabled) if a permission is declined.
The App uses Google's on-device ML Kit (text recognition) and Android's Speech-to-Text APIs, both of which run locally on your device. No data processed by these APIs is sent to Google or any other party by this app.
The App also uses the following third-party services:
All Firebase and Google services are governed by Google's Privacy Policy. Data sent to these services may be used by Google in accordance with that policy and is retained according to each service's standard data-retention settings.
This App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will be revised accordingly. Continued use of the App after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
